Based at the National University of Singapore (NUS), the Singapore chapter of Energy Crossroads works with our affiliate organization Energy Carta. The groups focus on countries in the Asia Pacific region and are comprised of college students with diverse talents from different countries and backgrounds. We seek to promote and encourage discussion on energy issues at a grassroots level, bringing together policy makers, companies and the public in order to turn our vision for a cleaner energy future into reality.
Inaugural Asian Energy Youth Summit
The Inaugural Asian Youth Energy Summit was held on 30th and 31st October 2008 at the International Conference Centre, Singapore. Themed "Opportunities and Challenges for Clean Energy & Energy Efficiency in Asia," Energy Carta's flagship conference targeted students and young professionals from across Asia. There were interactive discussions with speakers on a variety of topics and a job fair/ exhibition that will be opened to the public.
Increasingly, the world has come to terms with the fact that we are facing a problem unlike any other that we have ever faced before. Decades of exploiting the Earth to fuel the growth and prosperity of our nations, has left our energy resources drained and facing the prospect of depletion. It has also created irreversible harm to the planet we live in. Soaring oil prices and rapid climate change bears testament to this.
The solution to this problem requires a cross-disciplinary approach with inputs from the different realms of academia, technology, politics and economics. With this also comes the birth of a budding new industry with immense economic potential. As part of the International Energy Week to be held in Singapore from 3-7th November 2008, the summit seeks to highlight these opportunities and challenges while engaging the future leaders of tomorrow in dialogue with the leaders of today.
